Congratulations to the students who have been selected for publication in Routes, the 25th Anniversary Edition of Journeys! Lin Hu, Ming Hua Lu, Yodit Gebeyehu, Yannina Leon, and Matthieu Wagbala  are the lucky recipients!  Less than 40 students were selected from 450 submissions from across Minnesota.

They will be working with specially trained writing tutors from the Minnesota Literacy Council, editing their original submission, and writing 2 more extended pieces.  In addition, they will be attending a training on April 8 at the MN Literacy Council, reading at the MN Literacy Council Awards night on May 22, and receiving a $100.00 stipend after their works are completed.

We had 13 students submit stories to Journeys this year. These authors  also submitted works: Elia Ducharme, Omar Pacheco, Manola Phengmany, Sachie Heaton, Sonja Savic, Maria Reyes, Zukhra Gabdrakhimova, and Saray Mora de Mancilla.  We are waiting patiently to hear who will be published in Journeys this year.  It will be a little while longer before we know that.   In the meantime, congratulations to all of the authors!

Fall Classes Start September 9

Good news!  Ollie Provo will be teaching the new ESL/ABE Transitions class in St. Michael Albertville this year. Many of you already know Ms. Ollie because she has subbed in Pam’s classes.   She has a great deal of experience teaching ABE in Howard Lake and will be a great help to the students wanting to advance their studies.  We are very lucky to get her as the new teacher!

The Big Lake Morning Class will have a time change in September when class starts again. Last year class was from 10:45am-12:45pm. In September, it will start at 9:00am and go to 11:00am. This time change will allow students who work second shift and students who must be home to get children off of the school bus at noon to still come to class. Please tell your friends about the time change for class in September.
