How can I study English in August when there is no class?

Listening Skills:

  • Listen and read the new posts. Pam will post something new every week.  Right now, you can watch the interactive video on how to save a life and the video on the history of fireworks.  When you are done watching, post a comment.
  • Go to ‘Websites for Students to Gain Class Hours’.   Click on USA Learns.  Sign up for a Class.  Use the paper your teacher gave you for registering.  Choose the First or Second English Course.

Reading Skills (and Listening for Pronunciation):

  • Go to the links on the right side of the page marked ‘Websites for Extra Reading’.

News for You has expired for the summer, but you can read on the ‘California Distance Learning Project’.  There are many stories to choose from.  Listen while you read for the correct pronunciation.  Make sure you do the activities after you read for vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension.

  • Use the USA Learns site under the ‘Websites for Students to Gain Class Hours’.  Register for the class by using the paper your teacher gave you.  Choose the Reading class.

Pronunciation Practice:

Go to the link under ‘Pronunciation Practice’.  There is something new posted every day.

Language –Writing and Reading:

Use your Skills Tutor lessons your teacher has given you.  It is under the ‘Websites for Students to Gain Class Hours’.

Review of the Classroom textbooks Ventures and Touchstone:

Go to the links under ‘Websites for students for classroom review’.  Go to Ventures Arcade or Touchstone Arcade. We used Book 2- the Blue one in Monticello and Buffalo.  We used Touchstone Book 3 in Monticello for the advanced students.  We used Ventures Book 3 in Big Lake.

Want to practice Basic Math Skills?

Go to Websites for Math.  GCF Learn Free or Visual Fractions are both good practice sites.

Want to Study Grammar?

Use the workbook pages your teacher gave you.  Do what you can.  We can correct   them when classes start again in September.

Summer Classes

I’m excited to announce that I will have classes in Monticello and Big Lake this summer.

In Big Lake, the Tuesday/Thursday morning classes will start on June 12 and will end on July 19.  There will be FREE child care and FREE lunches for the children!  The Big Lake class is open to all- students do not have to have children to attend.

In Monticello, the evening classes will start on June 4 and will end on July 25.  The Monticello class is also open to all.
